Please come and join in on the MVSC Fall/Thanksgiving Season membership meeting, Saturday, November 16, 2024. We will be gathering to discuss the upcoming ski and Christmas celebrations and answer your questions regarding the Christmas Party, results of the ski swap along with inquires on the upcoming ski trips.

This meeting will take place at the Highlands Hall and Banquet Center, PA-31 Jones Mills, PA 15646 (across from Sarnelli’s Market). This will be a POT LUCK and BYOB Event! So don’t forget your mixers. This will be a chance to bring your favorite Fall comfort food whether it would be a main dish, appetizer, salad or dessert. Ice and water will be provided.

In order to assure and even meal distribution after your reply to attend “YES” on the Punchbowl invitation select “SEND A PRIVATE NOTE” to indicate your Potluck contribution, then press “SEND”. You can also use the private note area to ask questions of the club.

Socializing and sign in will start at 5 PM. 6 PM Potluck dinner. 7 PM start of meeting. Members cost: $0 with Potluck contribution. $10 PP without Contribution. Nonmember’s costs: $10 with a contribution PP and $20 PP Without. Looking forward to seeing all of YOU!

Hello Mon Valley Ski Club and Friends!! Saturday, October 26, our Mon Valley Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins will be descending at the Bear Rocks Community Center, 161 Big Springs Road, Acme, PA 15610 for our October Membership Meeting.

Registration will start at 5:00 PM and there will be a cash bar with very reasonable priced drinks beginning at 5:00 PM. Pizza and Wings will be served at 6:00 PM. Dinner is FREE to Members and A fee of $15.00 for Non-members. The President,

Dan Porter will conduct the official meeting starting at 7:00 PM. As mentioned at the October meeting we will continue to collect $40 for Dues and ask for Volunteers to Sign up for the November 9 th Willis Ski Swap sale. Dan will continue to go over and answer any other questions regarding upcoming activities and events. Costumes would be enjoyed by all but are totally optional. So Please come and join us for a fun night of enjoyment!!

**NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL IS PERMITTED ON THE PREMISES.**

If you should decide to cancel please let us know as soon as possible. We had 12 no shows at the last meeting and this does affect the amount of food that will be ordered for the event. We are aware things change however, try to keep us informed. This is your club and your money.

Back by popular demand! Join us for a fun night of bowling at the Wicked Googly with your fellow MVSC club members. We have lanes reserved for up to 28 bowlers.

The cost is $10 per member/bowler and $25 for non-members. This gets you 2 hours of bowling, free rental of the stylish bowling shoes they have, along with pizza and soft drinks!

There is a full-service bar with very reasonably priced drinks and a full menu if you would like to purchase additional food.

They also have live bands every Saturday night starting at 9:00 – so if you want to make a ‘night of it’ you can stick around to enjoy the music.

Event and sign up will start at 4:30 Dinner at 5:30 PM and meeting at 6:30-8:00 PM. Club President , Dan Porter, if you have not met him already will talk about upcoming Events, review our planned budget, answer questions, and introduce our current Board Members.

Weekday Golf outing!!

Wednesday September 11th at 9:30am, Mon Valley heads to the links for a mid-week 9-hole golf outing

Designed for those for whom the word “handicap” refers to their entire game, everyone from beginners to those who have shot a few pars, this day is for yoU! We don’t even keep score!

For $19 you get 9 holes of golf at Luke’s Links at Norvelt Golf Club and a golf cart. We will then have lunch at their very nice restaurant. All of this is self-funded!

You can form your own foursome, or we will do it for you. We will form up and start at 9:30am. You can “play your own” or play a scramble (best ball) format within your group. That means if you hit a bad shot, take your ball up to the best shot of your group!

Attention all MVSC hard partiers, wine drinkers, and those just wanting a fun afternoon out! We’re continuing our “Summer Wine Series” with a Stone Villa Wine Cellars on Saturday AUGUST 17 th from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Admission is purchase one bottle of wine per couple.

Music will be provided by VANDELLS (oldies) from 1-5

MVSC will reserve some picnic tables at noon in the grassy area. Bring your folding chairs, your friends and some snacks to share with the group.

Please join us for our MVSC Summer Picnic @ Laurel Hill State Park on Sunday, August 4 from Noon to sunset. Bring your family, children, grandchildren, and friends to our summer picnic. Look for the tents that will be set up behind the concession stand and beach area. Park is Pet friendly but please have your dog on a leash.

Laurel Hill State Park is truly a wonderful nature sanctuary where we can relax and enjoy all kinds of summer fun. You can swim in the lake or just relax on the beach. You can bring your own kayaks or bikes, or you can rent bikes, kayaks, canoes, fun hydro bicycles, and standup paddle boards. You can take a bike ride on a bike trail or do a hike. We will have volunteers available to lead a hike or a bike ride. There is a volleyball net on the beach, and we will have cornhole, badminton and other fun activities for adults and children. Bring your own lawn chairs.

You can BBQ and/or bring your own favorite summer picnic foods. If you wish to share a favorite dish with others that would be welcomed! Bring charcoal if you plan to BBQ. NO ALCOHOL allowed in Pennsylvania state parks. There is a concession stand available 3 minutes from the lake beach with hot dogs, ice cream, etc.

The club will provide water and ice.

BE AWARE THERE IS NO ELECTRIC AT THIS PICNIC SITE.

The Mon Valley “Duffers” head to the links for our first golf outing of the season! This event is for everyone from non-golfers to almost good golfers and everyone in between!

The MVSC bicyclists are hitting the trails a few times this summer! Our first event will be a combined bicycle ride followed by a picnic at the Viscontis.

The ride will begin at noon on Sunday May 26, 2024 starting at the Rockwood GAP Trailhead. There will be two distinct groups:

• Beginner’s ride Rockwood to Garrett (14 miles or less roundtrip)

• Advanced rides Rockwood to Meyersdale (24 miles or less roundtrip)

• Rockwood GAP Trailhead:

• Electric bikes welcome

• Breaks as needed. Casual riding style. “No one left behind!”

Please join your Mon Valley Ski Club Friends at the Donegal V.F.W. Post #6743, 110 Veterans Lane, Jones Mills, PA 15646 Picnic Pavilion , Saturday, May 4, 2024, (3 PM-8 PM) to watch the 2024 Kentucky Derby.  Bring your lawn chairs and a covered dish per couple as we spend the afternoon and early evening picnicking and watching the 150th Kentucky Derby Event. 

The BYOB social will start at 3:00 PM, snacks will be provided; dinner will be served at 5:00 PM. Race will take place @6:45 PM in the pavilion. PLEASE park in the main VFW parking lot and not in the picnic area.

“JUST FOR FUN” bring a few $5 bills to bet on some ponies. 

• Ladies and Gentlemen dress up and wear your favorite Derby Hat!!

• The fire pit will be live so drag your chair over and party with friends!

• Feel free to bring your friends along with their covered dish and donations!

• If you know what you are bringing, please respond to the Punchbowl invitation accordingly.

Come out for MVSC’s first Spring Hike at Highlands Sporting Clay’s Grille, located at Seven Springs. Our group will meet inside the dining/fireplace area of the Sporting Clay’s at 10.00am, we will start our hike/walk at 10:30am. This will be an easy hike, so come out and get your legs in shape for other summer activities. Our hiking group will return to the Clay’s from where we started around 11:30am, there we can enjoy lite appetizers of your choosing provided by MVSC.

IT’S ELECTION TIME!!

Our annual Election Meeting which will be held at Highland Hall & Banquet Center, PA-31, Jones Mills, PA 15646 (across from Sarnelli’s Market). We would love to have all members attend so that you may have an opportunity to either run for an officer role and/or cast your vote for the upcoming year 2024-2025. As you know, we have elections each year and positions available.

 Please join our Mon Valley Ski Club friends for an old-fashioned hamburger & weenie roast to celebrate the 2023-2024 ski season! We’ll set up in the North lot alongside the Lost Boy Trail for hamburgers, hotdogs, sodas, and water. No visible alcohol, please!

We’ll even have Bobby’s chili to spice up the dogs!

 Be prepared for cold weather and dress in layers (with boots as it is often muddy!). Last year’s tailgate was cold, and we were all bundled up!

 There is no charge for members and a $5 charge for guests. Please try to stop by whether skiing/boarding or just enjoying some fresh air at 7 Springs!

Please bring your own chair(s) and while shareable snacks aren’t being requested, they’re always enjoyed!.

May move to East lot at the last minute depending on conditions

Our Epic passes allow us free access to the activities at this fine resort.

We’ll set up some tables so you’ll have friens to do these activities with. Create your own groups then join us for lunchg and socializing!

It’s normally a pain to gather up your stuff and travel, but nice to know there’ll be friends there to play with!

Please join our Mon Valley Ski Club friends for an early evening of friendship! We will be trying a Retro Fashion theme, so dig into your closet (way in the back!) and come wearing those "formerly fashionable" outfits one more time!

We'll be conducting our monthly business, showing off pictures of some recent Mon Valley events, and discussing “new business”! As always, members are free and guests are $15 so bring your friends!

We have so many new members you’ll want you to come and meet and tons of activities planned for 2024. Come hear what’s happening and maybe suggest a few things you’d like to see us get involved in as well!

We have some “Day Ski Trips” to the local resorts and want your input on making them good for you and some big ski trips to discuss with those signed up.

We’ll serve pizza for sure and hope to be able to add to that as well. We’ll have some mixers and there are several bars quite close by.

Note, this is NOT one of our famous ‘Pot Luck” events but if you come to meeting you’ll learn about those we do plan for this coming year!
